January is for me a time of reflection about what I’ve learned in the past year, and what’s ahead on my journey in the year that’s before me. As part of that reflection I think about dear family and friends I’ve lost over the years, and thank God for the blessings of newly forged friendships and nascent relationships I hope to build in 2019.
For many of you who follow me on Facebook or read my posts at tyramanning.com, you understand how much I’ve always loved music. Often, during critical junctures of my life, I’ve been drawn to a song that somehow captures the essence of what I’m feeling. I’ve written often about this in my musical blog posts over the years.
The truth is that music speaks to me constantly as if I feel the notes of favorite songs reverberating down my spine with every step I take. Music has a way of reminding me of all the blessings and amazing times that I remember and carry in my heart. To celebrate this New Year, I’m posting a song made famous by Lee Ann Womack, “I Hope You Dance.” It connects with where I’m at in my life, and I hope will inspire you as well.
Music, like storytelling, touches our deepest most heartfelt memories and reminds us of the good times and the times we touched the depths of despair. It reminds us that we are resilient and we have so much more in common than we have differences. Enjoy the music and remember, the universe has a way to come up to meet us.
Sing, dance and share your stories. Reach out to those you love as well as those who need your help. I encourage you to respond with some of your favorite songs and the stories about why they move you so.
2019 is going to be a great year.
