In celebration of the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, I thought I would share some photos of my favorite places on this beautiful planet we call home.
As you can see in my photos, I have traveled across the country and the world to witness the grandeur of renowned nature destinations, but I have also found beauty in places as simple and close as my own backyard. Whether navigating The Narrows at Zion National Park, trekking through Machu Picchu, or watching deer gracefully scampering through grass, there is wonder to behold everywhere we look.
Sometimes I am overcome with awe at the magic of Earth, especially in the places that feel most like home to me. The drive to West Texas from the Hill Country where I live now boasts some incredible, striking scenery. Every time I make that drive and I first see the pale outline of the mountains of Big Bend, I can’t help but hear “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” in my mind. The colors are magnificent, and the mountaintops look like they are outlined in sparkling red and green magic markers. Are they, I wonder, or am I imagining it? We are truly lucky to live on a planet with so much majesty that we question whether the beauty we see can truly be real.
What are some of the most awe-inspiring places you have visited? What are some of the places on this great planet that you hold dear?
