Despite our best intentions, life sometimes brings us unforeseen challenges and uncertainties. We assume that tomorrow will unfold as planned, but then reality intervenes to disrupt our agenda. In a recent post, I mentioned my trip to MD Anderson for some routine medical exams and tests. What they revealed is an increase in the chronic lymphocytic leukemia I first encountered a decade ago and which I’ve managed without chemotherapy since that time. These new results mean I’ll be spending the next few weeks undergoing chemotherapy to marshal my body’s resources to decrease this disease and again manage it without ongoing chemotherapy.
As I look for solace through prayer, meditation and music, I find myself drawn to one of my favorite artists, Eva Cassidy, whose rendition of the timeless classic Over the Rainbow reminds me of the beauty of the rainbow, which illuminates the sky so brilliantly in vivid color following the tumult of a storm. As I embark on this new journey, I’m secure in the knowledge that perseverance has always been a central part of my character, and that I’m accompanied along my path by so many others, living and deceased, who care for me and uplift my spirit.
